After her American Idol win back in 2005, Carrie Underwood immediately released her first single, “Inside Your Heaven,” which was her winning song, three months after the show wrapped up. It debuted at the number 1 spot on the Billboard singles chart and sold nearly 170,000 copies in both physical and digital formats.
Five months after the release of “Inside Your Heaven,” her first album, “Some Hearts” was released under Arista , and debuted at number 1 on the album chart, making American Idol judge Simon Cowell’s prediction about her selling more records than any other Idol winner come true—it was the fastest selling debut album by any Idol contestant.
Some Hearts was a mixture of mainstream pop and country music. A lot of the top songwriters contributed to the album. Among them are Troy Verges, Hillary Lindsey, Trey Bruce, Brett James, Rivers Rutherford. Diane Warren also had contributed to three tracks in the record.
Carrie was known for her country roots so it was evident that her songs would reflect that. In Some Hearts, she showcased her vocal pipes and with ballads that have country and pop themes. But it also showed a different side to this Idol winner. In tracks like “We’re Young and Beautiful” and “Before He Cheats,” Underwood showcased her vocal prowess.
Though she sounds very good with ballads, when she experiments in more upbeat songs, you’ll get to see how big of a voice she has.
She even dipped her hands in songwriting; contributing to a track titled “I Ain’t In Checotah Anymore.” Among the top tracks in this album are “Wasted,” “Some Hearts,””Before He Cheats,””Jesus, Take The Wheel,” and ”We’re Young and Beautiful.”

With this release, she’s out to prove that she’s more than a gorgeous girl who sings country. Listen to the tracks and you’ll realize she’s destined to be a country superstar. Usually, country artists, who tasted success with their first albums, would tend to lean closer to the pop genre. In Carrie’s case, she remained true to her musicality.
